Who Can Join?

British Columbia is divided up into seven regions. The Metis Nation of Greater Victoria  falls within region one which is Vancouver Island. If you live within the Capital Region you are eligible to apply for membership. If you live in one of the outlying communities Sooke to Port Renfrew, Langford, Sidney and the Gulf Islands you may also be eligible for membership. Please email us at casmetis@telus.net if you have further questions regarding membership criteria.

Metis Nation of Greater Victoria uses the definition of Metis adopted by the Metis National Council as of  September 27, 2002.

Metis means: A person who self-identifies as Metis, is of historic Metis Nation Ancestry, is distinct from other Aboriginal peoples and is accepted by the Metis Nation.

Genealogy

Genealogy is the foundation of the membership process. Our Family Researcher, Stan Hulme has been doing Metis genealogy for nine years. He is a member of the Manitoba Genealogical Society and the Orkney Family Genealogical Society. Stan has done genealogical research and verification for Mid Island, North Island, Fort Vermilion and Calgary locals. We, at Metis Nation of Greater Victoria, would like to thank Stan for his many hours of dedication and commitment in making our local a success.
